Samsung unveils first bada handset, aims to be No 1 in Australia

Samsung has unveiled the first handset based on its recently announced bada open mobile platform, and says it is determined to oust Nokia as the leader in the Australian handset market.

Tyler McGee, vice president, telecommunications, Samsung Electronics Australia, said: '2010 marks an exciting time for Samsung Mobile in Australia.

"We are committed to giving everyone the best of tomorrow's smartphone experiences today with our expanding range and new operating system. We have a clear goal to become number one in the Australian market this year and our smartphone strategy is designed to support us in achieving this milestone."

The Samsung Wave (Model: S8500), a touch-screen based device is billed as "the cornerstone of the company's commitment to provide a smartphone for every lifestyle." It will be available globally from April 2010.

Samsung unveiled bada in December saying it intended to use the new platform to make smartphones available to everybody.

Samsung says it uses a 1GHz processor "which offers users the best graphic performance available today. Its speed makes the touch screen user interface incredibly responsive and intuitive and, more importantly, means that the 3D and memory-intensive graphic and video performance is unsurpassed."
