A new app for mobile phones and tablets will provide risks posed by severe weather and natural disasters that could affect homes and businesses.
Released by the Insurance Council of Australia, the app, known as MyHazards, is available in Apple's App Store, with an Android version on the way.
ICA chief executive Rob Whelan said in a statement: "The MyHazards app has been designed to help householders and businesses across Australia, by simply putting in the address of a property.
"The app provides a visual map and easy-to-understand summary of potential natural disasters and severe weather hazards, including storms, cyclones, floods, storm tide and bushfire risk, for more than 11 million properties.”
The ICA said the app would soon be linked to its Building Resilience website which provides details of the resilience of building materials.
The app can also be used along with the ICA's Understand Insurance free building and contents sum-insured calculators.
The ICA said consumers could contact 1800 734 621 if they wanted additional information not available from the app.
