What we want in a smartphone - Nokia reveals survey result

By
Nokia has released the results of an online survey to gauge users' desires for smartphone features and functions. Topping the list was "the end of wires"

According to Nokia, 20 percent of respondents wanted to be able to do away with wired connections for data transfer and recharge. They will have to wait a while.

Nokia said in a posting of the results on its official blog site, Nokia Conversations. "Smartphones are intrinsically mobile devices, but always come to rest at some point of the day either for some data transfer action or plugging in for a recharge. Is there an alternative to that? Not right now, it seems but one to look forward to in the future."

In second place with 19 percent voting it their most wanted feature was 'green battery power' and in third place with 16 percent of the vote was common awareness between devices. "Despite the somewhat ambiguous title, the ambition is quite clear. With Nokia's drive towards openness and common standards continuing unabated, it's no surprise to see this topic high on the list" Nokia commented.

In the fourth spot with a surprisingly high 15 percent was biometric sensors. Mobile projects and mobile videoconferencing each picked up 12 percent of the vote. The remaining seven percent of responses went to other unspecified features.

The survey was conducted to readers of Nokia Conversations. Nokia did not say how many responses it received. The poll, and the choices offered, was inspired by a New York Times blog posting.
