The deployments come just two months after network installation plans were announced by the Newcastle City Council.
The LoRaWANTM carrier has just showcased the range of pilot solutions to a delegation of urban leaders from local and state government organised by the Cities Leadership Institute.
The use cases include a smart bin solution for waste management, smart parking solution, smart water metering, and soil moisture sensing.

NNNCo says delegates were able to see working devices in the field and witness the live flow of data from devices through the network and onto its data platform, the N2N.
Katherine O’Regan, executive director of the Cities Leadership Institute, said, “It was highly valuable for our delegates to understand the deployment and integration of technology in the City.
“The narrowband network forms an integral part of the City's fabric and future, and the collaboration between the Council and NNNCo is critical to delivering for the people of Newcastle.”
NNNCo founder and chief executive, Rob Zagarella, said, “Showcasing multiple live applications in the field is signifcant because it shows that we’re not only ready to provide the network access, but also to rapidly deploy and scale solutions for cities.
“This is about establishing the IoT fabric for cities and very quickly turning on solutions that will improve city efficiencies, sustainability and liveability.”
The Newcastle pilot program is one of the first deployments of NNNCo’s N2N IoT Data Platform which converts data from any device into a common format and visualisation engine.
NNNCo chief technology officer and chief operating officer, Tony Tilbrook, said, “The N2N IoT Platform enables customers to take any certified LoRaWAN device, turn it on and connect to the network, and receive data that can be easily ingested into their application of choice.
“Solving the ‘data to knowledge’ journey is key to solving cost and complexity issues and enabling the rapid take-up of IoT across industries.
“We know now that we have the capability to scale to millions of devices and millions of messages across industry sectors.”
NNNCo was selected to deliver the network by Newcastle City Council in early 2018 following an extensive tender process.
Under the contract, the company is installing a carrier-grade Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWANTM) to provide low cost, low-power connectivity that can support millions of wireless IoT devices.
NNNCo is a contributing member of the LoRa AllianceTM, an open non-profit association that has grown to more than 500 members since its inception in March 2015, becoming one of the largest and fastest-growing alliances in the technology sector.
Its members closely collaborate and share experiences to promote the LoRaWAN protocol as the leading open global standard for secure, carrier-grade IoT LPWAN connectivity.
The LoRaWAN protocol has already been deployed by major mobile network operators globally and connectivity is available in more than 100 countries, with continuing expansion ongoing.
