VIDEO: Remix OS for PC now based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Remix, the Android OS that works on desktop computers in a similar way to Windows, yet gives full Android app compatibility (including MS Office), is now based on Marshmallow.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the latest version of Google’s Android OS, and Remix OS by Jide is finally based on this latest version.

The makers of Remix OS say it "exists to bring together the Android apps and games ecosystem with the PC productivity features we're used to in order to pioneer Android PCs".

While Google has announced that its Chromebook ChromeOS will be able to run Android apps, the community isn’t waiting for Google to get off its assumptions that people are willing to wait.

No! People are not willing to wait for Google! They want a version of Android OS designed for desktop computers, which runs Android apps, but with all the benefits of windowed operating system, like, for example, Windows.

The system looks remarkably like Windows, but with around two million Android apps, including Microsoft Office and other Microsoft apps that Microsoft delivers for iOS and Android platforms before it bothers to write them for Windows PCs and smartphones, Remix is a compelling alternative to yet another Windows upgrade.

Indeed, Remix OS powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow arrives days before Microsoft’s deadline for a free upgrade to Windows 10 expires, and well before Microsoft’s Windows 10 Anniversary Update due in early August.

That said, however, Microsoft’s momentum is strong and won’t be so easily broken, meaning there’s plenty of opportunity for growth for Remix with its free OS, but Microsoft too, which will probably start making more money on Windows 10 due to the fact the upgrade won’t be free any more.

So, what are some of the new things to look forward to in the new version of Remix OS?

More below, including the official Remix OS installation video for Windows users.

Its makers say that new in this upgrade are:

  • Over a dozen more laptops and desktops now supported;
  • System stability improved over previous versions;
  • Wi-Fi stability improved; and
  • Improved user experience on multiple windows and other key features.
