The TV remote that you won't lose behind the sofa cushions

By

We've probably all mislaid a TV remote at one time or another. But what if it were strapped to your wrist?

Samsung's new Gear 2 smartwatch includes an infrared LED that allows the wearable to remotely control TVs, Blu-ray players, media boxes and so on.

Functions include volume, mute, channel, and on/off.

But that's not where Samsung's remote control story ends.

The company is releasing this month a new version of the WatchON app for its Galaxy S4, S4 and certain Note tablets that will work with any Samsung Smart TV.

In addition to remote control, the app puts an EPG on the device, along with the ability to select video rentals via the phone for streaming to the TV.

There's also the ability to send whatever is currently showing on the TV to up to three handheld devices.

We imagine this might come in handy when watching live sport if you want to be able to visit the kitchen to prepare a snack without missing any of the action.

The video (created by Tizen Experts) shows the WatchON app on the Gear 2 and the S5.
