iPad vs. Xbox vs. Wii vs. Twitter - ask the young who wins

What do the up-and-coming users really want?

Robert Scoble, the well-known IT commenter posted a very interesting tweet a few hours ago.

"Just got to my nephew's 12th birthday party and promptly lost my iPad. The kids made off with it. More interesting to them than Xbox or Wii."

There have been numerous reports over the past few months / years suggesting that Twitter is the preserve of the older generation (over 25!).  In that vein, we read regularly of surveys that show teens opine that Twitter is the domain of the old; that they never use it.

Guilty as charged - I don't personally know of anyone on Twitter young enough to be a child of mine.  Although a sample of just one, Scoble's tweet gives an interesting insight into a few things.

Obviously, that the youth of today really are dazzled by the new.  Perhaps this will be translated into sales.  Hopefully.

The very same youth seem to reject whatever it is they perceive as being the domain of those older than themselves (quelle surprise! We were all young and rejecting of anything older than ourselves).

Finally, that these representatives of the next generation are fickle.  What was cool yesterday and isn't today, may-well be cool again this afternoon.

Oh the joys of being an innovator of modern technology!

Security requirements such as confidentiality, integrity and authentication have become mandatory in most industries.

Data encryption methods previously used only by military and intelligence services have become common practice in all data transfer networks across all platforms, in all industries where information is sensitive and vital (financial and government institutions, critical infrastructure, data centres, and service providers).
