AIMIA restructures to ‘better serve’ digital industry Featured

The peak trade association for the Australian digital industry, the AIMIA, has embarked on a new strategic direction involving a restructure of the organisation which it says is designed to support ongoing growth of the digital industry.

The Chairman of the AIMIA Tim O’Neill says the association will undergo a restructure that will place more heads in each state chapter to run local initiatives such as mentoring, internship and education programs.

According to O’Neill the programs are aimed at addressing the “acute skills shortages brought on by increased demand for digital talent.”

O’Neill says the restructure will see AIMIA state presidents and representatives take on a greater role working with the industry, government and educators in each state, supported by new program managers on the ground.  

“All existing AIMIA programs will continue and the new structure will see many state-based programs expanded to a national level.”  

As part of the restructure, CEO David Holmes moves into an advisory capacity at the AIMIA while taking on a new challenge at Hostworks. He will continue to take a leadership role with O’Neill and Commercial Manager Nick Toulson.

"David was brought on late last year to evaluate the changing needs of the industry and to work with the Board to set a strategic direction for the association,” O’Neill said.

“All existing programs have been assessed and after consultation with members and key industry stakeholders, new programs have been added and existing programs refined. The Board is excited about the speed of transformation and thanks David for his work so far."  

According to O’Neill, the AIMIA’s membership base continues to grow. “With this restructure, we’re taking a decisive step to support the overall growth of the association and focus funds and resources where they are needed most.

O’Neill said that under the restructure, all back-office systems have been replaced to allow fewer administrative staff to run the association. “The website was overhauled and new best-practice groups have been created for Video, Social, UX & Design, Innovation & Investment and Content Marketing. Existing groups in Mobile and Policy continue to grow and are leading the way for the new groups.”

Commenting on his changed role, David Holmes said: "The association is really humming along and we need to support these initiatives with more program managers. I am looking forward to my new role at Hostworks and will be heavily involved in completing the re-org at AIMIA over the coming months."
