Suncorp simplifies storage with NetApp

By

Australian financial services provider Suncorp has been able to dramatically simplify its storage environment by standardising on NetApp gear.

As a company that had grown rapidly by acquisition and merger, Suncorp found itself with a complex IT infrastructure that limited its growth and responsiveness.

A radical rethink led to 80% of the company's IT environment moving onto a shared platform which still provided the required isolation between different business units.

On the storage side, the company worked with NetApp to consolidate thousands of disparate storage systems into to a single virtualised, shared infrastructure.

"When we took a critical look at our business and what we needed to do in order to be successful and grow, we realised that IT was the launching point to make that happen," said Jeff Smith, CEO of Suncorp Business Services. "The speed and agility that NetApp enables have been critical to our success, allowing us to drive innovation and completely reset expectations of what is possible.

"What once was an innovation team of nine people suddenly became an innovation team of 16,000 [the company's entire workforce]. Building a culture of innovation and developing the confidence that every problem is solvable have become our real competitive advantages."
