VicSuper rides the earthwave

By David Frost

Australia's fastest growing superannuation fund opts for earthwave's threat management services to protect its critical infrastructure.

SYDNEY, 6 Dec 2011 - earthwave has announced it has entered into a multi-year agreement to further secure the information assets at VicSuper, one of Australia's fastest growing super funds with over 250,000 members and 14,000 employers.

Managing risk is a critical part of VicSuper's corporate governance framework and this agreement enables the not-for-profit company to augment its highly advanced security infrastructure by leveraging earthwave's expertise in threat management and cyber security.

This type of agreement illustrates the increasing recognition by security-aware organisations of the need to mitigate risk and enhance internal security capabilities by engaging managed security services providers such as earthwave.

VicSuper Manager of IT Services, Paul King said: 'VicSuper has always taken extraordinary measures to ensure the privacy and integrity of our information. This agreement continues that commitment and sets a new precedent for data protection at VicSuper. We chose to work with earthwave because of their understanding of regulatory compliance requirements in our sector, their risk-based approach to security, certified operations, and ability to address both external and insider threats across the broad range of security platforms we operate.'

He added: 'VicSuper gains access to earthwave's advanced detection and response capability that clearly sets it apart from the other providers we found in the market. Combined with the complete service transparency provided through the client portal, industry leading service level agreements and expert security engineers, this made earthwave a standout. This translates into significant improvements in risk mitigation and resource optimisation at VicSuper."

The agreement also underscores earthwave's continued investment and growing presence in the security services market.

Carlo Minassian, Founder and CEO of earthwave, said: 'earthwave continues to gain momentum by leveraging its foothold in the Australian market through the largest catalogue of managed and in-cloud security services with extensive vendor support, diverse channel partners and distribution arrangements.

'earthwave has taken a holistic approach to VicSuper's security that involves a combination of protection, detection and response services, integrated with administrative, technical and physical controls. This approach will help VicSuper's Information Technology administrators defend their information assets more effectively and more productively against malware. It will also help them to take pro-active measures against potential security threats from every part of their network as they continue to take advantage of the benefits of the Internet to improve the service they provide to their members. We are looking forward to working closely with the team at VicSuper and are thrilled to have them join our security elite customer base.'
