"Route optimiser" SmartTrans gets new CEO

By
Mobile data and route optimisation specialist, SmartTrans Limited, has appointed former senior Telstra and Motorola executive, Tim Herring, as CEO.

The company's core asset is software for companies that operate large fleets of vehicles for deliveries or other site-visiting purposes that enables such companies to optimise the use of these vehicles. Herring told ITWire that the software can take into account locations of premises, as well as many other factors such as times of day when deliveries are not permitted.

SmartTrans claims its technology can deliver 20-30 percent cost savings to the average fleet manager. Herring said: "That's not just fuel costs: a company with a fleet of 50 vehicles might find that the don't need 10 of them."

The software works through PDAs and a GPS receiver in the vehicle and takes the vehicle's location whenever a delivery or site visit occurs enabling it to optimise its routing calculations.

The software is provided on an ASP basis and accessed via a web browser. Herring said the early sales had been to transport companies purely as a route optimisation solution but the company had now enhanced its offering with a number of mobile applications and was targeting any organisation that operated a vehicle fleet for site visits such as deliveries, or servicing. Its largest customer is contract cleaning company ISS Cleaning. Other customers include: Fairfax, Streets Ice Cream (Unilever), Boral and Palm Springs Water.

SmartTrans Limited is a subsidiary of ASX listed SmartTrans Holdings Limited.
