By Sybase

Sybase, Inc., an SAP® company (NYSE: SAP) and industry leader in enterprise and mobile software, announced that Sybase® IQ v.15.2, the industry's leading column-oriented analytics server, working with the IBM® POWER® 780 Model 9179-MHB server and running the Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® 6 Operating System (OS), achieved the best overall performance results among non-clustered systems for the TPC-H benchmark at 1 TB scale factor1 .

This benchmark simulates decision support systems that analyse enterprise-scale data volumes, execute queries with a high degree of complexity, and give answers to critical business questions. The test results provide another example of how the Sybase IQ 15.2 innovative architecture and query parallelism delivers maximum performance while requiring less overall IT resources by fully utilising available assets, which significantly reduces ownership costs.

"Today's forward-looking enterprises are searching for the fastest and most affordable ways to deliver results for mission-critical analytics, business intelligence and reporting solutions," said Dereck Daymond, managing director for Australia and New Zealand at Sybase.  "This benchmark demonstrates that Sybase IQ, combined with IBM Power systems, delivers on Sybase IQ's promise of unsurpassed analytics speeds for complex queries on terabytes of data, delivered to thousands of users at exactly the right time."

The TPC-H benchmark results for the joint Sybase and IBM solution include:

  • The best performance at the 1 TB scale-factor among non-clustered systems with 164,747 QphH. This record performance was achieved using half the number of processor cores over the previous leader at the 1 TB scale-factor among non-clustered systems
  • A greater than 40% reduction in price-performance over the previous performance record holder at the 1 TB scale-factor among non-clustered systems
  • With Sybase IQ 15.2, the highest QphH ever published for Sybase IQ in the TPC-H
  • The IBM POWER 780 server, driven by POWER7® processors and incorporating solid state drive technology, is one of the most powerful members of the IBM POWER Systemsâ„¢ family.

Sybase IQ combines extraordinary speed and agility with low total cost of ownership, enabling enterprises to perform the critical business analysis and reporting that was previously impossible, impractical or cost-prohibitive. More than 2,000 customers worldwide have adopted Sybase IQ's innovative, column-oriented processing approach to power their critical analytical and reporting systems. Sybase IQ solutions empower businesses to more accurately predict outcomes, gain real-time insights into business operations, and actively mitigate risks in today's competitive global climate.

Active Vs. Passive DWDM Solutions

An active approach to your growing optical transport network & connectivity needs.

Building dark fibre network infrastructure using WDM technology used to be considered a complex challenge that only carriers have the means to implement.

This has led many enterprises to build passive networks, which are inferior in quality and ultimately limit their future growth.

Why are passive solutions considered inferior? And what makes active solutions great?

Read more about these two solutions, and how PacketLight fits into all this.
