Man in the Moon, and your Face in Space

NASA is offering to put a picture of YOU on one of its two last space shuttle flights. The U.S. space agency says, 'launch your face into space and become a part of history.'

To participate in this historic event (sort of, huh?) and earn yourself a place in space history (my head is just spinning with all of the accolades that are about to be bestowed on me!), go to the following NASA website:

"Fly Your Face in Space"

NASA states on the page that all you have to do is 'Select the Participate button at the bottom of this page and upload your image/name, which will be flown aboard the space shuttle.'

If you don't have an appropriate picture to upload, you can also just upload your name (not so cool, but what the hey?).

You'll next need to save the confirmation page with your flight information.

You can choose one of the two last remaining flights for which to send your face.

Choose either: STS-133 that goes up in September 2010 aboard the space shuttle Discovery (that delivers the Leonardo) or STS-134 that flies to the Space Station (to deliver the Alpha Magnetic Spectometer) no earlier than November 2010 aboard Endeavour.

Page two continues with even more Face to Space mission stuff.

To learn more about STS-133, go to (yes, you guessed it): STS-133.

And, to find out some more about STS-134, head on over to STS-134.

I suggest that everyone select STS-133 (so I can select STS-134 and be the only face up in space during that mission'”sneaky, aren't I?)

Lastly, according to the official NASA 'Fly Your Face in Space' website, NASA states, 'Later...Return to this site after the landing to print your Flight Certificate - a commemorative certificate signed by the Mission Commander. You can also check on mission status, view mission photographs, link to various NASA educational resources and follow the commander and crew on Twitter or Facebook.'

After you complete the process, your face appears in one of the windows of the shuttle's cockpit. And you also get to hear a simulated countdown indicating 'Your face has cleared the tower!'

I am literally basking in the glory of my accomplishment!!

And, page three concludes this part of the Face your Space mission.

The best part of this whole deal is that it's free! I didn't have to spend millions of dollars to actually go into space like earlier spaceflight participants, or spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to go up (in the future) on one of the planned missions of Virgin Galactic or the other space tourism companies.

NASA does remind everyone "REMEMBER: Whatever you post on your Face in Space page may potentially be available for everyone to see, so you must exercise caution in what you post."

That's the story from here on Earth'”and I'm sticking to it ('¦ it must be a slow news day).

The end: we are go to resume countdown '¦ 5 '¦ 4 '¦ 3 '¦ 2 '¦ 1 '¦ Goodbye!
