Kogan lowers NBN prices, but is Vodafone still better value?

By

Kogan Internet has lowered its prices to be a smidgeon below Vodafone's newly lowered prices, but with Vodafone offering 4G back-up, Vodafone wins the better value battle despite Kogan's cheaper pricing.

Kogan Internet has lobbed ints latest salvo in the NBN price war, just days after Vodafone announced its newly lowered prices from $58

To counter this, Kogan Internet's new price for its Bronze Unlimited NBN 25 plan is $57.90, or ten cents cheaper than Vodafone's price.

Meanwhile, the Kogan Silver Unlimited NBN 50 plan is $65.90, and the Gold Unlimited NBN 100 plan is $85.90.

With the Silver and Gold plans, Kogan Internet is also offering 30 days of free Kogan Mobile on its Large plan, offering 16GB data with unlimited talk and text, with the SIM card free.

Obviously, Kogan doesn't do dumb, customer-hostile stuff like offering cheaper prices for a set number of months, only to raise them at some later point – Kogan just has great value everyday pricing.

Kogan Internet still provides several of the very cheapest ways to connect to the NBN. Unlike some providers, these are Kogan’s everyday prices, and are not based on discounts for a set number of months.

Kogan's $57.90, $65.90 and $85.90 prices compare to Vodafone's $58, $69 and $89 for the same plans, and despite Kogan offering a month's free phone access, Vodafone still has the ace card of having 4G backup in case something happens to the wired NBN connection you'd be connected to.

Kogan doesn't have this inbuilt 4G back-up option, although Kogan does let you use your own NBN-compatible modem, or purchase one from Kogan for $69.

Having 4G back-up is less of an issue in a world of ever cheaper mobile data, and the widespread ability and popularity of using a smartphone as a personal hotspot for your computer and other devices.

Still, if your modem has that capability built in, meaning you don't have to do anything and everything just keeps on working as per normal, Vodafone's 4G backup is certainly an excellent service, something only Telstra also matches in the marketplace, although at higher pricing.

So, if you want very competitive pricing, Kogan Internet certainly has it, but if you want to pay a tiny bit more, the peace of mind delivered by inbuilt 4G backup might make Vodafone's offering the better deal, in this case, for you.

As always, more information on Kogan Internet's plans and terms and conditions is available, with that info here
