VIDEO: Flexiroam X promises uncanny new world of data roaming

Want to become one of the uncanny Flexiroam X men or women, able to access a whole new way of accessing data abroad that may prove an apocalypse to competitors? Mutate your mindset and read on…

Ok, so the X-Men references were simply my idea of a bit of fun, but the Flexiroam X product certainly does seem like a beneficial mutation of the traditional global roaming deal.

Billed as a "revolutionary data roaming solution", Flexiroam X promises to "redefine the way that Australian travellers access mobile data overseas".

Flexiroam explains that its new Flexiroam X product is "powered by a proprietary microchip-embedded film that’s thinner than an A4 paper. Applied to a user’s existing SIM card just once, Flexiroam X opens up a whole new way to access data abroad".

Flexiroam X says it is "the latest 'travel hack' available to travellers who are seeking a seamless and affordable way to stay connected online in over 100 countries across the globe".

With Flexiroam X, users are told they will have "the ability to build up a sizeable data allowance (up to 100GB) for their next overseas holiday by interacting with the app or participating in regular data giveaways or events. Users are also able to refer Flexiroam X to their friends to collectively unlock free data".

To access the data that they have unlocked, Flexiroam says its users "will require an active subscription to Flexiroam X, priced at USD $9.99 which is valid for 12 months upon activation".

Promised to "soon become an invaluable companion to data-hungry Australian travellers, an exclusive launch promotion will see early adopters receive 500MB of free data upon downloading the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play".

Then, with an active subscription, users are promised they’ll be able to "switch between their regular network and the Flexiroam X network which has 3G coverage in over 100 countries. 4G coverage is also available in certain countries".

The Flexiroam X global roaming network itself is "powered by access to leading overseas telecommunications providers to guarantee the best possible internet browsing experience while for users".

Flexiroam chief executive officer Jef Ong said: “Flexiroam X represents a disruptive change to how Australians access data while overseas, encouraging intrepid travellers to stay connected and share their adventures with friends and family without breaking the bank.”

The article continues below the image, please read on.

For users who require immediate access to data, Flexiroam X says its app "allows users to purchase 1GB Xtra Data Packs for just USD $29.99, pricing that represents a paradigm shift from the predatory prices charged by Australian telcos".

As Flexiroam states "leading Australian carriers charge in excess of AUD $200 for 1GB of data", Flexiroam X is said to "enable users to roam freely for a fraction of the cost with the ability to unlock free data from within the app itself".

Of course, there is the Vodafone $5 per day roaming that allows you to access data and voice that you can use in 50 countries as though you were "at home", but this itself is only for a maximum 90-day period per year, with other local telcos generally significant more expensive, so we can imagine that Flexiroam X will certainly have a major appeal to frequent travellers.

The company states that "the impetus for Flexiroam X was spurred by research from Deutsche Telekom that found 60% of consumers turn off global data roaming when overseas for fear of racking up exorbitant phone bills. These consumers instead opt to purchase local pre-paid SIMs or seek out free Wi-Fi in cafes and hotels".

Jef Ong added: “Flexiroam X is poised to become as essential as packing a toothbrush for Australian tourists heading overseas who do not want to compromise or downgrade their digital lifestyles.”

Flexiroam X also states it is "optimistic about winning over the nine million Australians who take overseas trips every year by reinventing the way mobile users access data abroad by eliminating excess data roaming charges for good".
