Fibre network operator CenturyLink has changed its name to Lumen Technologies.

"Our people are dedicated to furthering human progress through technology. Lumen is all about enabling the amazing potential of our customers, by utilising our technology platform, our people, and our relationships with customers and partners," said president and CEO Jeff Storey.

The Lumen Platform combines the company's highly interconnected global fibre network with edge cloud capabilities, and security, communication and collaboration services.

Lumen's Australian operation aims to become a major player in Australia, and is looking to gain market share in the enterprise connectivity, healthcare, mining, finance, and streaming and media segments.

The CenturyLink brand will continue to be used in the US residential and small business markets.
