NetComm Wireless. The company is an incredible Australian success story that is taking the telco world by storm with its innovative devices and technologies in cutting-edge areas including IoT, M2M and more.
But to keep on coming up with the technologies that major US telcos are deploying, along with technologies Australia’s NBN is implementing, you need an innate understanding of the newest technologies, business strategies and human ingenuity to keep on delivering.
You also need to listen to your customers and discover their problems, issues, successes and failures. You then need to apply your resources to innovate new solutions so you can solve these problems for your customers – and their customers too.

This is borne out not only by the fact that NetComm is undergoing a major US expansion with its first overseas R&D Facility, in Sunshine, Florida, (for extremely specific and practical reasons as you’ll discover in the video interview below), but by the fact that NetComm is expanding its R&D and testing facilities in Sydney and Melbourne, too.
Top this off with NetComm winning the prestigious IoT Award for Innovation at the 10th Annual ACOMM Awards for excellence in telecommunications and then make it sweeter still with the fact that NetComm has incredibly won this award for five years running!
Then on top of numerous US telco wins to supply cutting edge technologies, NetComm’s chief executive, David Stewart, who has been in the job for 34 dedicated years, was recognised and given an award as the ACOMM Awards Communications Ambassador for 2016.
So, when I was invited by Stewart and his team to come and visit NetComm’s offices in Sydney, which I hadn’t done for a few years, the time was right to look, listen, learn and share those findings with you.
One of the people I met was NetComm Wireless chief technical officer, Steve Collins, who has been with the company over the past eight years, and has helped steer the company’s innovative growth pipeline alongside Stewart.
I found Steve to be an engaging and intelligent man, and he graciously agreed to be video interviewed, which you’ll find directly below - after which I summarise the questions we discussed.
Here we go – enjoy!
I started by introducing Collins and welcoming him. We then spoke about NetComm’s rich history, through to the company today in 2016, and a bit about Collins' personal history in the world of tech.
Then we moved onto NetComm’s newly announced R&D labs in Florida, the difficulties in finding qualified R&D personnel, and why the city of Sunshine was the perfect place to find top-notch technical talent.
After this we spoke about NetComm’s Australian expansion too, now taking up almost three full floors in its Sydney HQ as the company continues its impressive growth, which includes new R&D facilities in Sydney and Melbourne, and brand new testing labs being constructed at the Sydney HQ, too.
We spoke about NetComm filling great engineering jobs in the US, and discussed whether there are still openings in the US and whether there are there any job openings in Australia.
After this we discussed NetComm’s new website and its new corporate mantra – listen, innovate, solve.
We looked at some major product releases that have taken place in the US with top telcos.
Next up was a discussion on the work NetComm is doing in Australia with the NBN.
We then delved into the future as Collins sees it, the best advice he has ever received to help him get where he is today, and his final video message to viewers, readers, and NetComm’s current and future customers.
And that’s it! Please take a look at the video above for all the answers and more!
