Timetable for .mobi domain name allocation announced

Mobile Top Level Domain (mTLD), the company responsible for the .mobi top level domain has announced rollout plans for the domain name.

.mobi will be the world's first domain name optimised for consumers using the Internet on a mobile device. Rollout will commence with the 'Sunrise Registration Period" for trademark holders in June 2006, followed by the 'General Registration' in September.

mTLD says it is working closely with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), registrars, copyright bodies and site owners to ensure that trademarks are properly protected during the Sunrise Period.

The Sunrise period will be preceded by week long "Limited Industry Sunrise" during which organisations in mobile industry will be able to register their trade and service marks. dotmobi will then be available for registration by the general public in September 2006.

Companies and individuals who want to register can get their dotmobi domain names through participating ICANN accredited registrars.

Now’s the Time for 400G Migration

The optical fibre community is anxiously awaiting the benefits that 400G capacity per wavelength will bring to existing and future fibre optic networks.

Nearly every business wants to leverage the latest in digital offerings to remain competitive in their respective markets and to provide support for fast and ever-increasing demands for data capacity. 400G is the answer.

Initial challenges are associated with supporting such project and upgrades to fulfil the promise of higher-capacity transport.

The foundation of optical networking infrastructure includes coherent optical transceivers and digital signal processing (DSP), mux/demux, ROADM, and optical amplifiers, all of which must be able to support 400G capacity.

With today’s proprietary power-hungry and high cost transceivers and DSP, how is migration to 400G networks going to be a viable option?

PacketLight's next-generation standardised solutions may be the answer. Click below to read the full article.
