Following Telstra's investment in Singapore-based AdNear comes the news that the telco's video streaming subsidiary Ooyala will acquire Videoplaza, an ad serving platform used by broadcasters and media companies in Europe (including members of the RTL Group) and Asia Pacific (such as Mediacorp in Singapore).
Ooyala officals said the acquisition is the first step in a multi-step strategy aimed at establishing global leadership in personalised cloud TV and video.
Videoplaza will allow Ooyala to address the full range of its customers' needs, including content acquisition and workflow, playback experience, ad serving, programmatic trading, personalised content recommendation, and real-time analytics for audience behaviour as well as content and ad performance, they said.
Initially the two company's individual offerings be offered on a standalone basis, but Ooyala plans to create a unified platform delivering the best of both worlds.
"Our combined platforms will offer a more holistic view of content and ad performance across a broadcaster's entire business, including granular data on not only what, how and where people are watching, but also where and how they can make the most money."
Telstra software group president Charlotte Yarkoni said, "The combination of Videoplaza and Ooyala establishes a leading global personalised cloud TV and video company."
"With Telstra's support, Ooyala will continue to look at investment opportunities to continue to build the leading personalised video company," she added.
