SMS messaging specialist mBlox opens in Australia

mBlox which claims to be the world's largest mobile transaction network has launched Premium SMS (PSMS) services in Australia and has opened an office in Sydney, with Hugh Haley as country manager.

Jeffrey Clark, CEO of mBlox, said: "Our expansion to Australia was essential to further establish mBlox's position in the APAC region and [to] service clients. Many clients, especially those based in the US and UK are keen on expanding their businesses to Australia.

According to mBlox, the service enables content providers, application service providers and enterprises to rapidly generate revenue from mobile content and services. "Just one connection to the mBlox mobile transaction network gives content providers and application service providers access to international as well as domestic Australian mobile operators."

It claims that its billing platform and messaging network have been routing SMS messages with carrier-grade reliability since 1999. The company focuses exclusively on sending and receiving application-to-peer (A2P) messages and mobile billing: it does not create content or applications. It "solves the challenge of dealing with disparate mobile technologies, country regulations and commercial contracts while meeting local and international compliance regulations."

The company maintains its own short message switching centres configured to handle A2P traffic. Interfaces to the network include Java API, SMTP, SMPP and XML.
