Remote resort gets Mitel IP telephony with Telstra help

By
Australian resort operator, Voyages, has installed an IP telephony system from Mitel, integrated across two resorts in the red centre of Australia.

Ericom, a Mitel accredited gold partner, designed the voice systems for the Voyages resorts at Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock using the Mitel 3300 IP communications platform at each resort with voice and data links provided by a combination of Telstra Private IP services and radio and satellite based services. Installation and onsite support services for these remote resorts were provided by Telstra Business Systems.

Voyages Ayers Rock Resort, the largest tourist resort in Australia, has more than 2500 analogue telephone handsets. These will be retained by integrating a Mitel 3300 ICP solution with the existing legacy phone system. Mitel IP telephony handsets will be progressively deployed for new connections, and as part of ongoing refurbishment programs.

The Voyages Kings Canyon Resort is a three hour road trip from Alice Springs and is claimed to be the most remote tourist resort in Australia. To provision this location, a Mitel 3300 ICP system was pre-configured before installation with the expected settings and was installed by Telstra Business Systems. It will be remotely managed.

Greg Hucker, IT manager for Voyages, said the company planned to progressively deploy Mitel IP telephony systems across all its other resorts in Australia.
