It may come as a surprise that Kickstarter hasn't been available in Australia until now. Previously only businesses from the US or the UK could begin Kickstarter projects.
“Kickstarter will open up to Australia and New Zealand-based projects in the very near future,” reads a message on the Kickstarterwebsite.
“Tell us what kind of project you’re interested in launching, and we’ll make sure you’re the first to know when everything’s ready.”
The platform allows entrepreneurs, or anyone with a half-decent idea, to crowdfund their product and create tiers of rewards for 'backers' who are helping fund the project.
Kickstarter's been a source of controversy since launch however, with some projects failing to live up to the hype, while others have yet to come to fruition at all.
Those interested can check out details and sign up for updates at kickstarter.com/australia.
The Sydney event will be held on 1 September, 2013 while Melbourne's will take place on 2 September.
