The theme of Berroeta’s address, on Wednesday 19 October in Sydney, will be "On The Move: The Future of Mobile in Australia & Globally", with an emphasis on the major changes that 5G and IoT will mean to mobile devices and networks, as well as imposing major changes on the fixed networks they will integrate with.
The Henry Sutton Oration is organsied by TelSoc to mark the work in Victoria of Henry Sutton, a great innovator and inventor in the late 19th century.
Berroeta was appointed chief executive of Vodafone Australia in 2014. He previously served as CEO of Vodafone Romania and Vodafone Malta, and also worked in various roles in Spain and the US.
Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) is a 50:50 joint venture between Vodafone Group and Hutchison Telecommunications Australia. Vodafone entered the Australian market in 1993, with VHA formed in 2009 following a merger with Hutchison.
As TelSoc notes in the preamble promoting the Sydney event, “The Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) story is one of the most extraordinary and impressive turnaround stories in corporate Australia of recent times.
“VHA responded to challenging times with a clear strategy, including significant network investment, and that strategy is now paying off. VHA has a customer base of 5.5 million and growing, a network that is better than ever and products which have changed the game in the Australia mobile market.
“What is VHA’s role in the Australian mobile market going forward? How is Australia placed to take advantage of advances in mobile technology such as 5G and IoT?
“5G and IoT will mean major changes to mobile devices and networks and will require much closer integration with fixed networks. Vodafone, as a world leader in mobiles will be a major influencer,” TelSoc notes.
