Sydney Broadcast Services business expands network, creates new opportunities

VENDOR CONTRIBUTION: MediaHub used to cater to the Australian broadcast industry and over the years has transitioned into providing cloud and data centre-based services. Today MediaHub broadcasts over 400 terrestrial TV channels and offers playout TV, connectivity services, storage services, online streaming and radio services to audiences locally, nationally and internationally.

MediaHub needed a comprehensive upgrade to its existing 10G DWDM fibre optic transport network to a 200G high-speed network, to support growing broadcast and streaming requirements.

The biggest challenge was to support the three most important factors, which are a must in broadcast networks:

1. Low latency - so that there are no delays in broadcast
2. Resilience – so there are no breaks in transmission
3. Support of a mix of services of broadcast (native, TSoIP) and data (Ethernet) - so that the network is flexible to different broadcast and data applications.

Leveraging several of PacketLight’s carrier-grade DWDM fibre optic network solutions (PL‑2000M 200G muxponder, PL-2000 20G Muxponder, and the PL-1000RO ROADM), facilitated MediaHub’s network expansion to a 200G DWDM OTN next-generation network by multiplexing additional 200G wavelengths. These wavelengths support any mix of services (Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and video), and in case it is required in the future, optional Layer-1 optical encryption with full throughput and traffic transparency (read more about optical encryption here).

This also expanded the network into mesh topology, connecting additional sites and data centres over DWDM ROADM infrastructure. This has enabled MediaHub to expand its traditional broadcast services, extend their data centre interconnect offering, and remain a leader in its respective markets.

WEBINAR event: IT Alerting Best Practices 27 MAY 2PM AEST

LogicMonitor, the cloud-based IT infrastructure monitoring and intelligence platform, is hosting an online event at 2PM on May 27th aimed at educating IT administrators, managers and leaders about IT and network alerts.

This free webinar will share best practices for setting network alerts, negating alert fatigue, optimising an alerting strategy and proactive monitoring.

The event will start at 2pm AEST. Topics will include:

- Setting alert routing and thresholds

- Avoiding alert and email overload

- Learning from missed alerts

- Managing downtime effectively

The webinar will run for approximately one hour. Recordings will be made available to anyone who registers but cannot make the live event.

Security requirements such as confidentiality, integrity and authentication have become mandatory in most industries.

Data encryption methods previously used only by military and intelligence services have become common practice in all data transfer networks across all platforms, in all industries where information is sensitive and vital (financial and government institutions, critical infrastructure, data centres, and service providers).

Get the full details on Layer-1 encryption solutions straight from PacketLight’s optical networks experts.

This white paper titled, “When 1% of the Light Equals 100% of the Information” is a must read for anyone within the fiber optics, cybersecurity or related industry sectors.
