Students receiving one of the five scholarships on offer will receive US$10,000 per semester towards their tuition fees and can renew the scholarship up to three times as long as they choose to stay in Adelaide.
The Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) is a leader in education and research in the combination of technology and fine arts. Its students and faculty create new processes, tools and vision for story¬telling and entertainment.
Carnegie Mellon University, based in Pittsburgh, USA has a reputation as one of the world’s finest universities. It set up a campus in Adelaide in 2005 offering three different programs, one of which was the Masters in Entertainment Technology (MET).
The Masters in Entertainment Technology (MET) is a two year program built around semester-long project courses, which bring together students from different disciplines with the projects focused on interdisciplinary teamwork.
More than 150 graduates of the program have gone to work for entertainment technology industry leaders including Entertainment Arts, Pixar, Disney, Apple and Dreamworks. A number of start-up companies have grown from ETC projects, reflecting the entrepreneur¬ial energy inherent in the program.
After consultation with representatives from the Government of South Australia, the Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center is pleased to offer the five scholarships to students opting for the March 2008 ETC Immersion Semester in Adelaide.
“Both the Government of South Australia and the Carnegie Mellon ETC remain committed to mining the richness of Adelaide as an international educational center,” said ETC Executive Producer, Don Marinelli.
“Adelaide has tremendous assets in terms of social and professional attributes and we want to do everything possible to spread the word about the Adelaide educational experience.”
Program Director of the Australian Campus, John Buchanan, said the scholarships were an important step to help Australian students achieve successful careers in the fast-changing environment of the games industry.
"This is an excellent opportunity for Australian Students to participate in the world's leading Masters Program in the entertainment field. In particular recent graduates seeking careers in the game industry should consider applying for these scholarships," he said.
