Tenix Awarded Australia’s first-ever Infrastructure Sustainability ‘Excellent’ Rating

Tenix, a leading name in gas, power, wastewater, industrial, and mining assets delivery was recently awarded Australia’s first ever Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating for a project they are delivering in Whitsunday region in North Queensland.

The rating was announced at the Queensland launch of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia’s IS rating scheme in Brisbane on Monday 22 April 2013. The IS scheme is Australia’s only comprehensive method for evaluating the sustainability of the design, construction, and operation of infrastructure, which sets the best-practice benchmark for sustainability.

Tenix was awarded the ‘Excellent’ rating for their design of two sewage treatment plants for Whitsunday Regional Council. The design will see savings of more than 15,000 megawatt hours of electricity over the plants’ operational lives. It will also see the reduction of close to 4,800 tonnes of construction materials, while avoiding the emission of 15,400 tonnes of carbon over the life of the plants. The design will also greatly limit the amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus being released to the environment and reaching the Great Barrier Reef.

The company has now launched a new website devoted solely to this project, seeking to reach and educate more people about sustainable infrastructure and the benefits of the country’s first IS rated project.

http://www.tenix-whitsunday.com.au highlights the project’s successes to date, with the IS ‘excellent’ rating as the headliner. More benefits of the design can be viewed in full on the website, as well as information about the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia, the IS rating scheme, and the importance of the scheme.

Following the success of the Whitsunday project, Tenix will continue to seek opportunities to implement sustainable infrastructure solutions that will benefit more areas in the country.
