Fleet Space, Reekoh collaborate on satellite global IoT connectivity


Australian space start-up, Fleet Space Technologies, is collaborating with IoT data and API management company Reekoh in planning for the provision of global connectivity through a constellation of 100 nanosatellites.

The partnership will see integration of data from Fleet’s narrowband satellite communications with Reekoh’s enterprise IoT platform.

The two companies will also enter into a joint pilot project which will involve the development of relevant plugins and data visualisations to demonstrate managed data.

“We’re really excited about partnering with Reekoh on this project”, said Flavia Tata Nardini, Fleet’s co-founder and chief executive. “Think of Reekoh like the plumbing, and Fleet and our data as the water supply: this collaborative partnership allows us to turn on the tap and will allow customers to access, and effectively, use our data.”

“Identifying partners who will help us get billions of data points from our nanosatellites in space into the hands of millions of users on the ground is a huge step forward for Fleet Space Technologies,” she said. “Our vision is rapidly becoming a reality.”

The partnership with Fleet also signals Reekoh’s first satellite-based platform partner.

“One of the most exciting parts of this partnership is that its enabling us to open up a massive, untapped IoT network made available through the nanosatellite technology deployed by Fleet Space Technologies,” said Dale Rankine, co-founder and chief executive of Reekoh.

”Now, together, we’ll be able to reach areas that are very often problematic for traditional networks. That, in turn, provides better connectivity for customers.”

Fleet Space Technologies is developing a nanosatellite constellation for narrowband data relay to and from remotely deployed devices and sensors. The system includes what Fleet Space Technologies refer to as Portals. These proprietary user terminals can connect to multiple sensors and devices by Low Power Wide Area Network radio communication technologies.

The business plans to launch its nanosatellites before the second half of 2018, and the connectivity for the initial pilot program will be provided through a simulated space segment, but will be representative of Fleet’s eventual commercial narrowband service in terms of data bandwidth and latency.

Under the agreement Reekoh will develop integrations to the Fleet data network that will provide additional capabilities for Fleet customers in managing and utilising their data. In turn, this will provide Fleet with commercial and operational opportunities through the use of the Reekoh platform.

The Fleet Space Technologies integration is in the process of being developed and will be available for customers by the second half of the year.
