About 6000 YouPorn users have had their user credentials compromised via a chat service operated by a third party. In a statement, YouPorn have stated that YP Chat is "operated by a third party and is in no way associated with YouPorn". The defintion of "not associated" is interesting as it is called YouPorn Chat and available via the YouPorn site. However, in order to protect their customers, YouPorn's management has shut down the chat service pending a "thorough investigation" according to an entry on the site's corporate blog.
While the compromising of 6000 users is nothing to be sneezed at, there's a little more to this than meets the eye.
YouPorn is operated by Manwin Holding SARL - they operate a number of other online pornography sites. Just two weeks ago, another site associated with Manwin Holding, Brazzers, was reported to have been involved in a data breach.
This one involved the leaking of 350,000 user records from a Brazzers operated site. The compromised data included usernames, encrypted passwords, e-mail addresses, full name and country of residence for customers. These were obtained via an inactive forum and then published online. One assumes that the publication of this data may have been a cause of embarrassment for many of Brazzers' customers as well as a ripe supply of data for identity thieves.
That attack, according to The Associated Press was carried out by a 17-year-old living in Morocco who said that "I didn't do that for any money," He claimed allegiance to Anonymous - the hacking group that has caused significant embarrassment and angst to many large organisations across the world.
