Microsoft has released patches for 11 security vulnerabilities in its products, six of which the company rates as critical.
The other five flaws are rated as important. The details are here.
Among the critical flaws the most severe was one which affects all versions of Windows back to Windows 95, and involves the way that client devices interact with network printers.
All critical flaws can be exploited remotely.
Theoretically, an attacker could use this hole to execute code at system level either over a local network or the Internet.
This vulnerability was discovered by the security firm Vectra Networks.
Other critical vulnerabilities which were patched were in Internet Explorer, Edge, the JScript and VBScript scripting engines, Office and the Adobe Flash player version supported on Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows 10.
