The problems started surfacing at about 8pm EST on Tuesday (10am Wednesday AEDT) with the Apple dashboard [screenshot below] that indicates issues with services showing plenty of red triangles.
Yesterday Microsoft had a global outage. Tonight Apple services are cutting in and out. There have been spotty outages for other significant services over the last few weeks. I don’t want to put a tinfoil hat on, but these all seem to be happening pretty close to each other.— Justin Parlette (@jpar0) September 30, 2020
The company has not issued any statement to explain what happened.
Coincidentally, the Apple outages took place around the same time that Universal Health Services, one of the bigger American hospital chains, was hit by a cyber attack.
The incidents were not restricted to two; AT&T's customers in South Carolina were also deprived of service, with the entire state going off air.
Customers in parts of North Carolina and Georgia were also affected.
