Sydney Water has appointed Wipro consulting partner for utilities, George Hunt, as its new CIO.

Hunt, who will take up the role on 14 March, has more than 20 years in IT and is currently Global Consulting Partner for Utilities with Wipro where he has been responsible for leading transformational programs with a significant number of major utilities worldwide.

Sydney Water managing director, Kevin Young, said Hunt will oversee the rollout of a customer-focused IT roadmap and “work collaboratively to achieve Sydney Water’s vision”.

Hunt has also held roles as CIO of Wessex Water and CTO roles with Thames Water and American Water.

Hunt said he was excited to join a progressive organisation that was providing such an important service for so many people.

“As Australia’s largest water utility, working at Sydney Water presents me with a great challenge as well as a wonderful opportunity.

“At the end of the day, Sydney Water’s customers are the priority and modern, efficient IT is critical to ensuring they have the best experiences possible.

“I’m excited to continue building on the good work that Sydney Water is already doing, when I come on board.”
