The Australian Digital Health Agency has appointed its former chief operating officer, Bettina McMahon, as interim CEO while the agency commences a search for a permanent appointee to the chief executive position.

McMahon, who has worked with the Agency and its predecessor the National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) for the past 10 years, recently announced her resignation from the Agency and has agreed to delay her departure until the CEO role is permanently filled.

The agency says McMahon has advised that she does not intend to apply for the CEO role.

Ronan O’Connor, the National Health Chief Information Officer, will act as CEO for the period between the departure of current CEO Tim Kelsey, who resigmed earlier this month and McMahon’s commencement in the role in February.

The agency board says it expects the formal recruitment process to commence in January next year and is anticipating “strong interest for this important role”.
