Stallman to give talks in Brazil and Argentina


The founder of the Free Software Foundation, Richard Stallman, will undertake a tour of Brazil and Argentina beginning later this month.

Stallman, who also wrote the GNU General Public Licence under which the Linux kernel is released, will begin his tour with a talk on "A free digital society" in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on 29 May.

At each of the talks, he will also sell items to benefit the Free Software Foundation.

Stallman left MIT in 1984 to start the GNU Project and the FSF. He has been promoting free software since then.

The rest of his itinerary is:

  • A talk on "Your Freedom as a User of Computers and Cell Phones" in Campinas, Brazil, on 31 May;
  • A talk on "Free Software and Your Freedom" in Curitiba, Brazil, on 2 June;
  • A talk on "Your Freedom as a User of Computers and Cell Phones" in Spanish in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 5 June;
  • A talk on "Free Software and Your Freedom" in Spanish in Santa Fe, Argentina, on 7 June;
  • A talk on "Copyright vs Comunidad" (Spanish) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 9 June;
  • A talk on "Copyright vs Comunidad" (Spanish) in San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina, on 12 June;
  • A talk on "Free Software and Your Freedom" in Spanish in Salta, Argentina, on 13 June;
  • A talk in Brasília, Brazil, on 17 June restricted to attendants of "Campus Party"; and
  • A talk in Brasília, Brazil on 19 June.
