Debian veteran Garbee to keynote at LCA

By

Veteran Debian developer Bdale Garbee will give the third keynote at the Australian national Linux conference next year.

Garbee has been a regular attendee at the LCA over the years; at the 2012 conference he gave a talk on the FreedomBox, a project that is dear to his heart.

He recently retired from HP where he was, for many years, the chief technologist for Linux and Open Source, and is now president of Software in the Public Interest.

Apart from his work with the Debian project - which produces arguably the best GNU/Linux distribution - Garbee is also on the board of the Linux Foundation and the FreedomBox Foundation.

His keynote, titled "The Future of the Linux Desktop", will look at the current state of the desktop and how progress could be made.

The conference will be held in Canberra from January 28 to February 2.
