By

The most commonly requested consultant skills in the telco industry in Australia are big data, change management and business analytics, based on 500 project postings since 1 January. And what of other industries?

Expert360. The company says it is “an online platform that connects businesses with a global network of top independent consultants for project based work".

It also analysed “over 500 project postings since 1 January from Australian corporates (with more than $500 million in annual revenue) to find the most commonly requested consultant skills overall and within industry sectors”, with a full list giiven below.

The chief executive of Expert360, Bridget Loudon, said, “Australian businesses are increasingly turning to an on-demand talent model that enables them to easily scale teams, resources and capabilities as needed. The current most in demand skills include project management, process improvement, data science and analysis, financial modelling and business transformation.

”There’s been a huge shift in the way leading organisations utilise top-tier talent, given many of the best consultants no longer sit in firms or hold traditional full-time roles and Australia’s biggest corporates are posting projects valued up to $700,000 to tap into these specialised skills.

“A big trend we’re seeing in these projects is growing demand for data and analysis skills. Businesses are still grappling with how they can best store and use data to better improve a range of business functions, including internal processes, the customer experience and their go to market strategy. As a result, there is high demand for data and analytics consultants in Australia’s biggest companies across a wide range of industries from aviation to telcos.

“Process improvement is also a key focus for many of Australia’s biggest enterprises across the banking, healthcare, logistics & supply chain, government and the consumer goods sector. As better business processes help boost customer satisfaction and revenue growth, businesses are turning to Expert360 to engage experienced consultants as a way of topping-up their workforce and driving change.

“Similarly, now more than ever, enterprise businesses are looking to bring in experienced project managers to effectively define and drive project success. There is strong demand across big corporates for strong project management, however insurance, banking, mining and minerals and the healthcare sector demonstrated a particular need for project management skills. High quality project managers are incredibly important for enterprise businesses as they not only manage cost and timings, but encourage teamwork, ensure quality and manage integration."
