Samsung’s Galaxy A, 2017 – premium phones at mid-market prices

Samsung has used the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to release its new Galaxy A series of smartphones offering almost all the flagship GS7 features for a lower cost.

Samsung Galaxy A7Flagship features eventually find their way into tomorrow’s mid-market smartphones. Samsung has offered key GS7 features – AMOLED screens, IP68 water and dust resistance, metal frame, 16MP camera, USB-C, micro-SD slot, biometric identification, and colour choices in a new range competing directly with the S7.

Richard Fink, vice-president, Mobile Division, Samsung Australia, said, “The Galaxy A Series delivers key features that we know our customers love in a smartphone including an exceptional camera, water and dust resistance and a premium design at a mid-range price, the Galaxy A Series offers excellent value to our customers. It sets a new standard for what Australians should expect from a mid-range smartphone.”

The Galaxy A comes in a 5.7” A7, a 5.2” A5, and a 4.7” A3 all with very high screen to body ratio reducing wasteful top and bottom bezels and making these more pocketable than competitor offerings.

These phones represent a significant advance over the current entry level Galaxy J series that ranges in price from $199 to $399.

It is expected the A series will fall into the mid-market $499 to $699 price bracket, and compete with the OPPO R9 and R9 Plus.

Security requirements such as confidentiality, integrity and authentication have become mandatory in most industries.

Data encryption methods previously used only by military and intelligence services have become common practice in all data transfer networks across all platforms, in all industries where information is sensitive and vital (financial and government institutions, critical infrastructure, data centres, and service providers).
