Pre-orders will commence from 12.01am on 27 February at the Optus website. The Galaxy S9 64GB will be available on a 24-month My Plan Flex at $85 a month.
All those who pre-order either of the phones before 15 March will receive a Samsung Convertible Fast Charge Wireless Pad which sells for $119.
At the launch, Samsung said the S9 and the S9+ would be the first models to support the the new SmartThings app to manage connected devices, both those made by Samsung and other companies.
“The way we use our smartphones has changed as communication and self-expression has evolved,” said D.J. Koh, president and head of IT and Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics.
“With the Galaxy S9 and S9+, we have reimagined the smartphone camera. Not only do the Galaxy S9 and S9+ enable consumers to shoot great photos and videos anywhere, it’s a smartphone that’s designed to help them connect to others and express themselves in a way that’s unique and personal to them.”
The cameras have a Super Speed Dual Pixel sensor with dedicated processing power and memory to take shots with high photo quality.
Super slow-motion, low-light operation, and creation of AR emojis are additional features. Samsung's voice assistant, Bixby, will generate information directly on top of the image that the camera is pointing at.
Users can also translate foreign languages and currency in real time with Live Translation, learn about their surroundings, purchase products seen in the real world and track calories throughout the day.
Optus managing director of Product and Marketing, Ben White, said Samsung’s latest device offers innovative new features that would appeal to many consumers.
“Samsung continues to raise the bar in the Android market with the Galaxy S9 offering convenient new security features such as face recognition and iris scanning to unlock the phone, water resistant technology, wireless charging and amazing new camera functions which are all innovations we know Optus customers will love," he said.
