The new Oppo model offers premium quality and features that at A$599 represent the most amazing value of any Australian smartphone.
Offering a large 6 inch AMOLED screen it is not very much larger than other flagships – it uses an edge-to-edge design with a screen-to-body ratio of approximately 80% resulting in a svelte 158x82.3x7.75mm weighing 192g.
To put that in perspective the iPhone 6 plus with a 5.5” screen is 158.1x77.8x7.1mm and costs from $1149.
The R7 PLUS has some significant features that make it leading edge.
Its metal uni-body is the product of 48 polishing processes and incorporates a unique external antenna design for the best reception and call signal.
The 4100 mAh battery coupled with OPPO’s unique VOOC fast charging will last for days and 5 minutes of charge gives 2 hours talk time.
The 13MP Sony camera has laser focus, image stabilisation and a four-pixel RGBW sensor – red, green, blue and white – it takes magnificent pictures rivalling other flagship cameras. The dual tone, dual LED flash and f2.2 lens produces superior, clear, shots day or night. OPPO’s camera app allows for a high level of manual control and will save RAW or JPEG shots.
The rear touch-type fingerprint sensor delivers a higher recognition rate than traditional slide-based fingerprint sensors. It can wake and unlock the screen, stores and up to five fingerprints that can be used for various software commands including encryption..
It comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage as standard. The dual sim slot will accept either two sims or one sim and a microSD card for extra storage.
I am writing this from China where I have been a guest of OPPO for five days. I have talked at length to its designers, marketers and engineers as well as inspected the surface mount production line and the QA testing facility. That is subject for another article shortly.
I recently reviewed the OPPO R7 http://www.itwire.com/your-it-news/mobility/68852-oppo-r7-smartphone-?-review – a 5” version and in my opinion it represents incredible value and quality.
Now that I have seen the factory, I know why. This is a company on a mission to capture number one Android smartphone spot in China and perhaps the world.
I will be reviewing the R7 PLUS soon.
