The always-on-display can be changed to a number of colours depending on the user's preference.
A second new feature is known as long-take animation. In Huawei's words, "These animations leverage the shared content, or areas, between two interfaces to produce a smooth transition from one to another. This ensures focus continuity, allowing users to keep their eyes on the most important and active parts of the screen."
A third addition is floating windows which uses the distributed technology on EMUI 11 and is part of the smartphone-notebook and tablet-notebook Multi-Screen Collaboration.
Right now, users can have two smartphone apps running concurrently on a desktop, but future updates will increase that to three.
There is support for Password Safe and other user-centric privacy features in EMUI 11. This is augmented by the CC EAL5+-certified TEE OS microkernel, and offers comprehensive security.
EMUI 11 includes a feature known as Encrypted Memo, which secures personal memos behind a password or biometric check. Sensitive data captured on photos, such as location, time, and model of the device used to create the image, can be easily removed or hidden.
Huawei is unable to use the Android version which includes Google's proprietary apps like YouTube, Maps, Drive and Photos due to American sanctions which prevent Google from selling it to the Chinese firm.
But the Huawei AppGallery provides instructions on how users can gain access to some of these apps through a Web interface.
Some regular apps like WhatsApp can be downloaded directly and used while European browsers Opera and Vivaldi are two good options for Web use, if one does not wish to use the onboard browser.
