Chinese smartphone maker Huawei Technologies has launched two new models — the P40 and the P40 Pro — both supporting the 5G-NR standard and Wi-Fi 6 Plus. A third model which was launched, the P40 Pro+, is not available for sale in Australia.

A statement from the company said the P40 would be on sale for $1099 and the P40 Pro for $1599. Both include a complimentary VIP service to help users set them up and P40 Pro buyers will also get a pair of Huawei FreeBuds that are worth $299. Both models can be pre-ordered from today.

The models will be available from the Huawei Authorised Chatswood Store, Mobileciti and Harvey Norman, whilst the P40 Pro will also be available from JB HiFi and Officeworks on 16 April.

The P40 phones are powered by Huawei's Kirin 990 5G processor but neither comes with the full Google-supplied Android operating system due to restrictions placed on the company by the US.

Instead of the Google Play Store, the P40 Pro and the P40 have the Huawei AppGallery which boasts applications from more than 10,000 global partners. Both models run the Huawei EMUI10.1 operating system which is based on version 10 of the open-source Android OS.

The Huawei Watch GT 2e was also launched on Thursday and will be available in Australia soon. Other products released at the global launch were the Huawei P40 Pro+, Huawei Sound X and the latest spring/summer 2020 Huawei X Gentle Monster Eyewear.
