Dell releases pocket-sized thin client Featured

By

The Dell Wyse Cloud Connect is only slightly larger than a thumb drive, but it provides remote access to virtual desktops, and can also be used for interactive presentations or remote signage.

Dell Wyse Cloud Connect plugs into an MHL or HDMI port on a TV or monitor, and then works with a Bluetooth or USB keyboard and mouse (peripherals not included). If power is not available on the MHL port, the device can be connected to a micro USB power supply.

Communication is via the built-in 802.11a/b/g/n dual-band Wi-Fi interface.

Other hardware specifications include a Cortex A9 ARM system-on-chip, and a micro SD card slot.

Wyse Cloud Connect runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and therefore supports a wide range of applications including web browsers.

Dell Wyse PocketCloud is preloaded to provide remote access to physical or virtual desktops, apps and content, company officials said. This includes Citrix, Microsoft and VMware environments.

The device can be managed via Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager.

"Small, smart and secure; Cloud Connect is a disruptive device," said Dell vice president and general manager for cloud client-computing Steve Lalla.

"We unlock new options for our customers to access their data and applications by combining mobility, manageability and security with a powerful user experience at an affordable price-point."

Wyse Cloud Connect costs $187.
