Canonical releases major update for Ubuntu Touch


Canonical has released a major update for its Ubuntu Touch operating system that is used on Ubuntu phones and tablets.

This update is the 13th over the air update that has been released. It encompasses a number of fixes for existing bugs and a number of new features.

All existing Ubuntu phones are supported, as well as the BQ Aquaris M10 and BQ Aquaris M10 HD Ubuntu tablets. There are also images for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 devices.

The power daemon has been reimplemented, there is improved screen management and better proximity detection logic. There is also an initial implementation of a storage framework.

The updates panel has been changed to show the last modification and a changelog, if one is available for the application in question.

Out of the box, a hardware keyboard can be selected.

Copy and paste is now available for legacy applications on the M10 tablet.

The notification settings have been modified, so that per-app settings are now available.

On the calendar front, support has been added for the iCal and CalDAV formats. Multiple calendars can be synced through Google accounts and Nextcloud.

There is a new keyboard system indicator and new versions of Oxide and Gstreamer.
