Cabcharge launches Digital Pass on Android

Cabcharge has officially rolled out its Digital Pass on Android to allow corporate travellers to pay their fares via Google Play.

Digital Pass on Google Pay is compatible for users who have installed the Google Pay app on their phone (Google Pay requires Lollipop (Android 5.0) or higher). The launch represents another step in Cabcharge’s drive towards digital payments innovation, following the launch of Digital Pass on Apple Pay in July.

And Cabcharge says the Digital Pass makes travel payments much more convenient, with the digital eTICKET emailed directly to a user’s smartphone and when combined with a fully automated back-end expense process, there is no need to collect new tickets or receipts when hopping in and out of taxis.

Cabcharge says its Digital Pass provides a solution for businesses to customise the time and cost of each travel ticket in order to maximise efficiency and ensure the legitimacy of each journey.

Launch of the digital pass comes as Cabcharge released a recent business travellers’ survey which found that:

  • Forty-nine percent didn’t feel in control of their travel policy;
  • Fifty-three percent still rely on their employees collecting receipts and manually raising expenses; and
  • Forty-three percent recognise that some travel expenses may not be legitimate.

“Our research found the top frustration for corporate travellers is collecting and expensing receipts,” said Todd Shipp, head of Corporate Accounts, Cabcharge.

“This practice is outdated, yet still occurs in more than half of businesses throughout Australia. The Cabcharge Digital Pass removes time consuming and costly expense management altogether. We’re excited to now make Digital Pass available on Google Pay and provide a solution that suits all travellers and organisations.”

Shipp said a recent brand refresh by Cabcharge saw an increased focus on digital products, with Cabcharge releasing a “world-first single use electronic payment solution in Australia, and continues to lead disruption in the transport industry”.

“Cabcharge has been built on innovation and the launch of our Digital Pass earlier this year opened up a new payment channel for many Australian travellers.

Cabcharge says Austereo, ABC, Clemenger and APN Outdoor and Vision Australia are already running Digital Pass.
