Spirit Telecom to acquire VPD Group for $14 million Featured

By

Australian-listed Internet service provider Spirit Telecom has secured an agreement to acquire Queensland voice, data and cloud services provider VPD Group for $14 million as part of its expansion into the NSW and Queensland markets, to create what it says is an “entirely new” wholesale business - Spirit Partners.

Spirit Telecom (ASX:ST1) says the acquisition will give the company a combined revenue run rate of $70 milion to $75 million for full year 2021, and deliver a “strong integrated sales opportunity” across Internet, Security, Cloud and IT services, in every state in Australia.

Spirit Telecom says VPD Group has a recurring revenue of 85% and 98% retention rate of clients occupying mining, aged care, and industrial sectors, and the client base is now moving through a major generational technology change as they migrate to the cloud and require high speed Internet and specialised IT services.

The deal, which Spirit describes as a “highly strategic move” will see VPD Group co-founders take senior roles across Spirit, with Jason Wade appointed as Spirit’s Chief Technology Officer and Luke Briggs as Chief Sales Officer – Wholesale.

Spirit’s Managing Director, Sol Lukatsky, said the acquisition was a “game changer for Spirit and through the acquisition of VPD Group, Spirit will build and strengthen its cloud, security, data and managed IT services capabilities whilst providing entry into expanded geographies in QLD and NSW for verticals such as Mining, Industrials and Aged Care.”
