Phil Salter retired as joint managing director of the direct marketing and communications company in 2009, and was a non-executive director up until his death. He was also a director of Matsal and had other extensive business interests.
He co-founded Salmat with friend Peter Mattick, and his father Tom, in 1979 when they established a small catalogue distribution business.
The company has since grown into a multi-platform, multi-country business and was listed on the ASX in 2002.
“Phil was an astute businessman who understood the value of strong client relationships. He was a large personality whose presence was felt in many areas.”
Salmat CEO Craig Dower said Phil Salter had left a tremendous legacy in Salmat. “Our culture is still based on the values instilled in the business by Phil and Pete. His extended Salmat family is in mourning and he will be greatly missed.”
Phil Salter is survived by his wife Christine, his six children Daniel, Andrew, Anna, Dominic, Richard and Juliet along with his mother Mary and extended family.
