ACMA hits Brisbane designer with spam warning

By

ACMA has continued its battle against spammers, this time targeting a Brisbane-based website design business.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority today announced ACRIS Services had been given a formal warning for sending marketing emails without the consent of the recipients.

An ACMA investigation found ACRIS Services had sent 17 emails promoting its website optimisation and design solutions to people who had no previous relationship with the company and had not consented to receive its marketing emails.

ACMA said it had written to ACRIS Services about its Spam Act obligations on numerous occasions prior to commencing its investigation.

The news follows heavy fines for Melbourne nightclub Brown Alley and online retailer Grays Online, both of which paid the price for not complying with the Spam Act 2003.

If you receive a marketing email that you think may not comply with the Spam Act, you can report it to the ACMaA by forwarding the message to report@submit.spam.acma.gov.au

ACRIS Services has been contacted for comment.
