ACMA releases draft spectrum outlook for next five years

By

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has released this year’s draft five-year spectrum outlook, with an overview of its spectrum management priorities and plans through to 2023.

As well as a detailed work plan for the coming year, the ACMA says the FYSO covers its proposed approach to mmWave planning in the 26 GHz and 28 GHz bands and the availability of scientific licences in the 26 GHz band.

The ACMA says the draft FYSO is designed to encourage a dialogue on spectrum management priorities, with the opportunity to give comment or feedback to be open for six weeks.

It has concluded its review of the 26 GHz band with the release of its future use of the 26 GHz band–Planning decisions and preliminary views paper, which signals the progression of the 26 GHz band to the ‘re-planning’ phase of its planning process.

And, the ACMA says it will shortly commence work towards providing new arrangements to facilitate the introduction of 5G wireless broadband services into the 26 GHz band.

It is considering applications for scientific licences in the 26 GHz band, and says the purpose of the licences is to enable interested parties to conduct trials of 5G mmWave technology before any introduction of spectrum licensing in the band.
