Rumours have been circulating since late last year that Oracle was planning to close more of its support centres, with Australia high on the list.
iTWire has been told by a source that the closure has materialised, and that 170 people have lost their jobs.
This follows the closure of a number of the company's support centres in Europe.
According to some reports, Oracle is progressively moving its support functions to countries with lower wage rates.
That can be a risky strategy, as offshore support has been known to adversely affect customer satisfaction.
It remains to be seen whether Oracle will be able to deliver the quality of support that its customers have come to expect while cutting costs in this way.
