Coming soon - Microsoft Sydney Store grand opening

By

Microsoft's first flagship store outside North America, located at Westfield Sydney on Pitt Street Mall will open at noon, on Thursday 12 November.

Located next to Sephora Cosmetics on street level (level 2) and Level 3, the flagship occupies more than 500 square meters. It includes a retail sales floor; an interactive space to serve local customers and business; and will employ staff from more than 11 countries and speaking more than 21 languages.

The store will include technology from Microsoft and its partners. It will have an Answer Desk – a one-stop shop for technical questions, troubleshooting and repairs. It also has a Community Theatre – a space where customers can learn how to use Microsoft’s latest and most popular products in their everyday work and lives, as well as immersive video walls throughout.

Sydney’s opening includes many special celebrations. Microsoft will donate more than A$5 million in software and technology grants to select local organisations in Sydney and New York, as part of the company’s mission to help people achieve more in their lives.

The grand opening festivities will recognise the great work done by these organisations and Microsoft will share more details on community celebrations soon. Additional details for these special events will be available at www.facebook.com/microsoftstore.

You can read iTWire’s interview about the store with Jonathan Adashek, Microsoft general manager of communications strategy in the sales and marketing services group here.

Opinion

Microsoft evangelists rejoice – at last, you do not have to hang around Apple Stores and give its staff a hard time. This is your store so make a pilgrimage; line up to buy Surface, Band, and Lumias; and show that 95% of the world’s desktop computer users cannot be wrong.

Seriously, this is Microsoft’s public face and it is a place to see way more than its select range of products. Microsoft will curate a collection of the best of breed, or best of range, computing devices from HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba and more. “These Signature devices will be loaded with Windows 10 – no user interfaces, no ‘bloatware’ – just a pure Windows experience,” Adashek said.

It joins more than 110 Microsoft Stores in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, 17 store-in-store locations in China and 189 country specific online stores in the rest of the world.
