TomTom Sports app gets you going

TomTom Sports has introduced a new sports app for its Runner, Touch, Adventurer, Spark and Multi-Sport wearable ranges.

The new TomTom Sports app was co-created with athletes and fitness app users. It gets people going by introducing motivational messages, activity trends, and comparisons, performance stats down to the second, rich social sharing functions, presented in an easy to use design.

The app provides a single place to track up to 12 different activity types from running, cycling and swimming to skiing, trail running and hiking.

Corinne Vigreux, co-founder and managing director, TomTom Consumer, said, “Much as changed since 2009 when we started creating wearables. The large amounts of data people now have access to, is overwhelming. But what people really need in that moment where excuses beat conviction, is motivation and a better understanding of what works for them. The new Sports app turn data into insights. It will be a hugely exciting year for our brand in the world of sports.”

The app shows the user's latest efforts and achievements, such as changes in body composition (with the TomTom Touch), smart comparisons benchmark the latest performance against their personal bests and resting heart rate. It also enables more advanced athletes to examine performance analytics on a by-the-second level.

It enables seamless data sharing with a range of third-party platforms like Strava, Nike+, Endomondo, MapMyFitness, Runkeeper and many more. It can be accessed via a smartphone or desktop browser.

It will be available from the Apple Store and Google Play store in February.

Data encryption methods previously used only by military and intelligence services have become common practice in all data transfer networks across all platforms, in all industries where information is sensitive and vital (financial and government institutions, critical infrastructure, data centres, and service providers).
